Das empirische Puzzle, das sich hieraus als Untersuchungsschwerpunkt dieser Arbeit ergibt, ist somit der Grund dieser zeitlich synchron und diachron auftretenden Unterschiede bez?glich der Durchsetzungsf?higkeit eigener Interessen auf europ?ischer Ebene. Konkreter geht es darum, Erkl?rungen daf?r vorzustellen, weshalb einige nationalstaatliche Akteure besser und andere schlechter bef?higt sind, ihre Ziele innerhalb der EU zu erreichen. Die abh?ngige Variable (AV) dieser Arbeit ist also die Performanz von Mitgliedsstaaten der EU bei der Regelsetzung auf europ?ischer Ebene. Um diese zu erkl?ren werden im ersten Teil dieser Arbeit zwei konkurrierende Theorien als Erkl?rungsans?tze vorgestellt. Zum einen das Mehrheits- und Konsensmodell der demokratischer Systeme nach Lijphart und zum anderen der Intergouvernementalismus, welcher auf Hoffmann zur?ckgeht. In einem weiteren Schritt werden aus diesen beiden Ans?tzen Hypothesen abgeleitet, die zuerst operationalisiert und daraufhin weiter plausibilisiert werden. Die Plausibilit?t der Theorien wird mithilfe der Untersuchung von SelckKaeding gepr?ft, die eine Korrelation zwischen Ausgangsposition der Staaten und Verhandlungsergebnis errechnet haben. ＜p＞At universities, professors are increasingly being dismissed or demoted from high positions for allegedly disruptive behaviors. But when is a professor disruptive? In the media, you read about unpopular statements, false attitudes, bullying or abuse of power. But that is only part of the story. This book looks at the structures behind the cases and shows that the dismissals repeatedly affect certain groups of people. Instead of performance orientation, a 'right to certification' is gaining ground. Instead of academic freedom, there is increasing pressure to conduct research only in line with certain political ideologies. Based on their empirical surveys, Heike Egner and Anke Uhlenwinkel present worrying findings and remind us of the once seemingly unshakeable principles of free research and free teaching at our universities. Among other things, the authors have examined the questions of which groups of people were primarily affected by the dismissals, what accusations were made against them, what the respective course of proceedings was, and what role the media played. The findings unearthed in the process are disturbing, for the facts suggest that not only has there been a sharp increase in the number of professors who have been prematurely removed from university service against their will, but that qualitatively questionable developments have also been observed. Increased awareness of the limits and over dependence on petroleum-based fossil fuels has led to a re-emergence of alternative fuels. The U.S. government has implemented an alternative energy initiative as part of their overall energy policy since the early 1970's. This new policy came because of the 1973 oil embargo. These alternative energy initiatives have focused primarily on bio-fuel sources. The two leading bio-fuel alternatives to the current petroleum-based fuels are bio-diesel and ethanol. 'Driven by environmental, economic, and energy security concerns, the availability of ethanol (E85) is growing nationally' (U.S. Department of Energy, 2006).
